Our Krkonoše easy routes are designed for people with minimal fitness experience—think of it as a long walk rather than serious exercise. Most beginner trails take 2–3 hours and gain under 400 meters of elevation, which is totally doable for anyone who can walk regularly.
Moravian Karst features limestone formations and caves with mostly level walking paths through dramatic rock valleys. Sandstone trails, on the other hand, wind through red-orange rock formations with more varied terrain and occasional scrambling. If you want geology and cave exploration, go Moravian Karst; if you want dramatic rock formations and a bit more adventure, try sandstone trails.
Not for beginner trails—comfortable walking shoes with decent grip are enough to start. You'll want a daypack, water bottle, and a light rain jacket, but you don't need to spend hundreds. We've covered what actually matters in our gear basics guide .
May through September is ideal for most trails. Spring (April–May) brings wildflowers but can be muddy; summer is warm and dry; autumn offers stunning colors. Avoid winter unless you're experienced—snow and ice on mountain terrain needs proper skills.
Solo hiking on marked beginner trails is safe and actually quite common. Just tell someone where you're going, bring a charged phone, and stick to established paths. If you're nervous, joining a local hiking group takes the pressure off and you'll learn from experienced people.
Our route guides include detailed descriptions and waypoint information you can save offline. We recommend downloading them before you go, plus having a printed map as backup. Cell service can be spotty in mountain areas, so offline prep is smart.
